What happens after death? It’s one of humanity's greatest unknown mysteries, inspiring countless beliefs and theories.
For those who believe in reincarnation, the idea of amnesia between lifetimes explains the random familiarities we feel toward people, places, and experiences. It suggests that our past lives influence us subtly, even if we don’t remember them directly.
The concept of soul journeys, where the purpose of life is to grow and learn, suggests that there is time between lifetimes as an opportunity to reflect on our experiences, learn, and grow.
For some, the idea of an eternal afterlife brings comfort, whether it’s the bliss of heaven, the purification of purgatory, or the punishment of hell—often tied to how we’ve lived this one incarnated life.
On the other hand, nihilism, often associated with atheism, posits that consciousness simply ceases, leaving nothing after death.
Each of these beliefs has something different to offer, positives and negatives. While upbringing strongly influences our views on death, personal growth and experience may shape what feels true for us at this moment.
