Understanding polyvagal theory

Stephen Porges, an American psychologist and neuroscientist, developed the polyvagal theory. He says that how safe we feel is crucial to our physical and mental health and happiness. The theory describes how the autonomic nervous system responds to changes, and this impacts how we respond to stress in the moment or long after the traumatic incident.

The evening will be led by Clare Triggs, the lead Neuro Physiotherapist at The Kent Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre.

She has been applying Polyvagal theory to her work and developing workshops centred around educating people on the Autonomic nervous system and the Vagus Nerve. Clare will be explaining the theory and how it works in practice.

Some of the session will be experiential. The session is not designed to be triggering but if anyone feels uncomfortable or distressed there is no obligation to carry out any of the practices involved. It will be a chance to explore the world of Polyvagal Theory and understand the changing states of our nervous system.

Cost is £8.00 in advance and £10.00 on the door.
